In this Unit you will discover how to get started doing research and the IRB requirements needed for any research conducted at Rocky Vista University. After viewing each presentation in the Handouts section complete the assignment associated with the presentation.

Unit 1

Assignment 1 – Finding your passion

For this assignment, follow the 4 steps on Slide 6 of the Finding an Idea presentation including:

• Brainstorm: Make a list and prioritize everything that interests you within a specific topic of healthcare.
• Using the first list, make a 2^nd list of things you are capable of doing.
• Using the first list, make a 3^rd list of al the things (include resources, people, equipment, space, patient population, etc.) that you will need to accomplish your list.
• Using the first list, make a 4^th list of your ideas that re important to society, healthcare, or the profession.

Now that you have completed this exercise, submit a short reflection on 2-3 of your interests that you would be capable of doing, have the resources to do, and are important to society, healthcare, or the profession.

Assignment 2 – Ins and Outs of IRB approval: Are you even doing research? (Quiz)

In each scenario, determine if each can be considered Human Research needing IRB approval.  If so, what type of IRB review is needed.
