Description

The population in Colorado and the Western United States is composed of a large population of Spanish-speaking individuals who have virtually no or limited English-speaking ability. The purpose of this course is to enable future physicians to communicate with these individuals in diverse medical settings. This is a required independent study course to aid students at Rocky Vista University COM in attaining familiarity with basic medical Spanish. The course will be taught during the first year, utilizing a text and CD that the student is expected to study independently. There will be optional seminars the students may elect to attend to facilitate pronunciation and comprehension. When the student is prepared, they may take online examinations. They must pass the first exam in order to proceed to the second, and so on. The examinations can be repeated multiple times until each is passed.
