Description

The course is a one-week course conducted in the Surgical Simulation Center. It is a combination of didactic and hands-on instruction in skills and knowledge necessary to perform well on the core surgery clerkship. Skills covered are scrubbing and sterile technique, knot-tying, suturing, instrument identification, airway management, surgical case presentation, discerning surgical from non-surgical problems, common peri-operative conditions, and surgical clinical knowledge. The course is graded as Pass, Fail, High Pass or Honors. Criteria for grading include performance on the clinical knowledge exam, the instrument exam, a subjective grade from the course instructors, and passing all the clinical competencies.
